The history
Founded in 1980, 2-10 HBW is the industry leader in providing structural warranties for builders. In fact, the “2-10” in our company name comes from our structural warranty product! It stands for 2 years of distribution systems coverage (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and 10 years of structural coverage. These coverages were a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) mandate from the 1960s. All builders of new homes had to provide them for people who took out a Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loan to purchase their home.
A few years after launching our structural warranty product, we began offering systems and appliances home warranties. These warranties were, and still are, available through real estate professionals during a transaction or purchased directly by homeowners for existing homes outside of a real estate transaction.
Where we are today
Since we started 40 years ago, we’ve covered over 6 million homes. Our structural warranties cover 1 in 5 homes throughout the United States.
